This is my first post @TechGeekal
In This Article i will guide you about dual booting windows8(original) and ubuntu on HP G6 2312AX.
Now, You must be thinking that its just stupid article on dual booting but its not so. When i bought this laptop I wanted to install ubuntu but also wanted original windows8 which came installed in the laptop . So i just thought dual booting will be the best way
But to my surprise, When i installed ubuntu and restarted my Laptop then it automatically booted to windows8 without asking which OS to Boot ( Ubuntu/Windows). So The Thing was ‘grep’ was not coming because Hp has made some System Configuration(BIOS) so as to prevent other OS to Boot. So i configured this method to dual boot.
This guide will be in two parts:
1. Installing Ubuntu
2. BIOS Configs To Make ‘grep’ to appear
PART 1:(Installing Ubuntu)
So before installing ubuntu you need to make your HDD into proper partitions. So open My Computer And Follow The Process shown in the images below
Now remember to be on a safer side create a separate partition on which you are going to install ubuntu.
Now Boot From The LiveCD And install Ubuntu Completely. After Complete ubuntu installation . It Will ask you to restart
the system in order to use ubuntu Now When You Restart the Laptop Then You Will BE booted automatically to Windows8.
Dont Panic Just See THe Second Part:P
PART2:( BIOS config )
Now Just restart your laptop and when the dim light appears during startup just press ‘F10′ to go into the Bios Setup
Now Goto System Configuration And Enable Virtualization Technology As Shown Below :
Now Goto Boot Options And Set The Parameters AS Shown Below :
Now Press ‘F10′ To save and exit A screen will appear and will ask you to enter four numbers and then press enter . Do it and when the laptop again comes to dimlight before booting press ‘esc’ key to enter the Startup mode . It Will be Something like this:
Now Press F9 for boot device option and you will see a screen like this one :
Now You Can select Ubuntu from the option as Shown Above
Note: Everytime you need to boot to ubuntu you will have to press ‘esc’ key on startup otherwise it will automatically boot to windows8
